Why Are Anabolic Steroids Illegal?

Anabolic steroids, synthetic versions of a male hormone. And oh what a hormone, the most famous of all male hormones, testosterone is what steroids really is. They are only illegal if used without a prescription or outside of the legal requirements. Steroids are a controlled substance.

When we think about steroids we usually associate them with the illegal use and not with all the good uses that steroids present. As with most drugs, there are good uses and potentially harmful uses. You should use every prescribed drug according to Doctors orders.

Doctors prescribe anabolic steroids every day so they are not illegal. There are many great uses for the drug. Why then are they illegal?

As with any drug, a person being prescribed should be careful to take them per Doctors orders. They become illegal when used outside of a

Doctors guidelines. Steroids are no joke. They have many harmful side effects and the user should be monitored regularly. If steroids are truly harmful then isn't all use of the steroid harmful? The answer to that question is, "No, not all uses of steroids is harmful." Its true that some have died using steroids.

It's also very clear that the use of steroids in a controlled environment can be eye-opening. There are serious medical conditions that depend on the use of steroids to correct. For instance, if you're a woman suffering from the menopause and developing osteoporosis you will consider steroids to be your miracle drug.

What makes steroids illegal is the overuse and potential to abuse the drug. Because all of the positive effects of the drug, there is a high potential to abuse it.


Anabolic steroids have been considered a legally controlled substance in the United States since way back when, in February 21, 1991. It's now nearing 2011, some twenty years later. Due to the potential of severe addiction, along side the legit uses of steroids, law passed stating everyone holding anabolic steroids at that time would be required to surrender their held drugs to Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

The DEA would then be responsible in the transfer of the drugs confiscated, to a government approved distributer location. What a far-out attempt to grab hold of all the steroids, so as to make a clean sweep of this potentially dangerous drug.

Anabolic Steroids is growing it's own history. The drug has been controlled for a very long time, twenty years. They are illegal because of many reasons, but they are not all together illegal. Just having steroids is not illegal if you hold a legal prescription to use the drug.

With serious side effects like becoming impotent, or growing facial hair when you don't want facial har, who wouldn't wonder why steroids are a controlled substance.

It merits being repeated that it's dangerous to use these drugs without first being under the supervision of a licensed physician.

Steroids can cause tumors on a persons liver and a host of other ailments. Steroids are also associated with jaundice and high blood pressure. There are many reasons why

steroids is a controlled substance. But the use of anabolic steroids is not illegal if prescribed by a licensed medical professional. Steroids are not illegal in and of themselves. It's only illegal to purchase or use the drug outside of what the law requires.

If you know nothing about steroids, then join the crowd. There are a lot of people out there asking questions about these drugs. Why? Because there are so many great uses for steroids; there are however, many potential serious side effects. Be care about using these or any other controlled drugs, especially anabolic steroids.
